The Doctors of the New Millennium
The practice of Medicine is both Science and Art: an expression of compassion and understanding for the patient and the illness, as both are entwined. The good doctor, then, knows
that healing comes from understanding both the nature of the disease and the patient's whole being — mind, body, soul, and the society wherein she exists.
UPCM Batch 2001 has always understood that we do not just treat a patient and send her home. We do what we can, with the talents and opportunities we are given, to improve the human condition.
And we strive for excellence, always.
We have grown and spread around the globe, leaving our footprints wherever we go. Yet, wherever we may be, we always look back with fondness and respect to our alma mater, our mentors
and our teachers who have opened doors for us, and the worlds of possibilities ahead.

We Stood Like Trees
Reaching out to the sun with outstretched branches,
Our leaves swaying to the winds that blew amidst the spaces beneath our twigs,
Each one of us maintaining that unique hue of green, of life
Shaped by nurture and nature into forms different from those next to us
And to all who belonged to that weald.
We reached out to brilliant knowledge,
Seeking to expose our very souls to the streams of light
which peel away the shadows of ignorance
that give birth to our weaknesses and fears.
For learning gave us strength
And confidence,
The willingness to tread the paths we each must take
beyond the confines of our sheltered worlds.
Indeed, it is the equalizing factor
Which gives the weak of stature triumph over power-wielding giants,
The cripple determination to succeed,
where other sound bodies crumple
under the weight of ponderous challenge,
And the failing mind longevity beyond years and decades to boot,
Living through the power of the written word.
As we felt the winds of change flow through our self-made restrictions,
We bent, and conformed, or broke some of our branches.
We felt the agony of defeat
And the bliss of success,
Or learned that more important lesson
of helping one another to weather all obstacles placed before our path.
For the wind blows on
And knows no time,
no powerful position, nor significant personage.
The wind goes where it will,
But we shape ourselves how we see fit.
And so we grew
(And we grow still),
Though our forms are now more beautiful or much misshapen.
But we grew,
And in that fact of growing, we must place our faith.
For if we can stretch this way or that,
And reach for stars though they seem beyond our grasp,
We took the lessons that we have learned well.
And this unpredictable world, nay, universe,
Shall not rule us,
But rather entreat us for our mastery and care!
